Most Marylanders have health coverage. Some do not, and they live in every county and neighborhood in the state. These two tools, both developed by the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, show where the gaps are and what those communities look like.
The dashboard maps uninsured counts and rates by county, Maryland House and Senate district, congressional district, Public Use Microdata Area (PUMA), and statewide.
Each area includes a community profile describing residents without coverage, including income, race and ethnicity, age, employment, disability, and citizenship status. Data tables can be downloaded from the dashboard.
For a closer look at a specific community, download the Maryland Community and Uninsured Profile, an Excel workbook with uninsured counts, rates, and community characteristics down to the Census-defined ZIP code. Sort and filter to find the areas with the highest uninsured rates or the largest uninsured populations, and see how each community compares on social vulnerability, a measure of the poverty, housing, and transportation conditions that can affect a community’s access to care and coverage. It’s built to help community partners target outreach, and to help policymakers understand who remains uninsured and where. The workbook opens with a how-to tab and includes full definitions and data notes.
