Broker Advisory Committee Members and Stakeholders
Residency: Brokers must be based in Maryland, reflecting our focus on local expertise and representation. This requirement ensures that committee members have a deep understanding of the unique healthcare landscape in the state.
Authorization Status: Brokers must maintain an active MHBE authorization in either the Individual market, the Small Business market, or both. It is crucial for brokers to maintain their authorization status without any lapses while participating in MHBE committees, events, or programs. This requirement ensures that committee members are up to date with the latest regulations and guidelines.
Privacy Incidents: Brokers must have a clean record with zero privacy incidents or violations in the past year and during their participation in MHBE programs, committees, and events. This requirement underscores our commitment to safeguarding consumer privacy and maintaining the trust of our customers.
Individual Marketplace Brokers: Brokers interested in participating in the Individual Marketplace must have a minimum of 500 enrolled subscribers from Private Health Plans and/or Medicaid. This requirement ensures that brokers in the Individual Marketplace have substantial experience and a significant customer base, enabling them to provide valuable insights and feedback.
Small Business Market Brokers: Brokers interested in the Small Business Market must have at least three active groups under their management. This requirement ensures that brokers in the Small Business Market have practical experience and a thorough understanding of the unique needs and dynamics of small businesses.
As members of the Broker Advisory Committee, brokers will have the opportunity to actively contribute to the improvement of MHBE’s programs and services. They can provide valuable feedback and recommendations, offer input on policy and programs, collaborate with industry leaders, stay informed about industry developments, and act as advocates for the interests of consumers.
The outcome of these committee meetings is to provide critical technical and operations advice to MHBE’s programs and services, ensuring that the business processes and technical solutions implemented by MHBE are widely accepted by our partners. The membership of the committee consists of brokers located in Maryland, with select seats reserved for other industry stakeholders, allowing for diverse perspectives and comprehensive input.
We emphasize transparency and openness in our operations. Therefore, all committee meetings are open to the public, ensuring that stakeholders and interested individuals can observe the discussions and decision-making process. Each meeting concludes with a period for public comment, adhering to the requirements of the Open Meetings Act and providing an opportunity for public engagement. It is important to note that while the Broker Advisory Committee provides valuable advice and input, it is not a policy-making body.
