This slider map provides a general perspective on the number of individuals who selected plans by county by comparing these estimates to the number uninsured by county prior to the establishment of Maryland Health Connection, the state’s health insurance marketplace.

Number of uninsured in 2013 are mapped on the left. The color gradation represents the number of individuals who were uninsured in each county in 2013 (the darker the shade the greater the number uninsured).

Number who selected a plan for 2015 coverage through February 28, 2015 are mapped on the right. The color gradation represents the number of individuals who selected a plan in the Maryland Health Insurance Marketplace in each county (the darker the shade the greater the number who selected a plan).

Source: Uninsured number is 2013 Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE) program of U.S. Census Bureau; 2015 enrollment data is from Maryland Health Benefit Exchange.

Limitations: No eligibility criteria was used so many of the uninsured could have enrolled in Medicaid instead of the Maryland Health Insurance Marketplace and individuals who selected a plan may have been insured prior to enrollment.
